Greek Island Honeymoon to Alta Mare resort in Santorini and Mykonos Grand Hotel

Rest assured, everything went as smoothly as could ever be expected … at all points!

Our flight connection from Athens to Santorini was fluid and almost too easy!

Santorini … we absolutely LOVED the Alta Mare Resort!! From our first contract with them via telephone, Sophia (the Reception Manager) assured us that she and the staff would tend to our EVERY need and concern for our duration! And They Did!! We were greeted on a VERY busy area of Oia by George (Resort Manager) and Strong-Mike (Resort Muscle) and led down the 69 steps to the Reception Area of the resort. Strong-Mike handled our bags, luckily! They were completely prepared for our arrival and had us checked in within minutes! … along with glasses of local Sparkling Wine! Then Sophia walked us to our room, showed us around the resort, and spent nearly 30 minutes highlighting spots on the map that we might want to pay attention to during our stay. There area total of eight rooms in this Adronis property, and they absolutely tend to your every need!

The room was beautiful and typically Greek! Lovely décor, crisp and clean, very well maintained. And we had the CADILLAC of rooms, which had its own private patio attached to the resort pool! VERY NICE!! My only comment on the room was a lack of drawers to place non-hanging items in … undershirts, socks, etc. However, everything else was truly amazing!

The location of this resort is THE BEST IN OIA! It is located about 50 meters from the confined, tight shopping alley that leads to the tip of Oia, with an incredible array of fantastic bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and gift shops within STEPS of the main entrance.

We never once returned to the resort without being warmly greeted, and offered wine (which was our drink of choice while there). EVERY time I got into the pool, them immediately brought wine to poolside.

Mykonos …. We were promptly greeted by the van driver from the Mykonos Grand Resort and quickly out of the crowded, somewhat crazy port area. THIS WAS PRE-ARRANGED by Sophia at Alta Mare in Santorini. Can I say enough about her? I would guess it was a 10 minute ride to the resort where we were immediately greeted by Anna. She was SO friendly, spoke perfect English … and had welcome Honeymoon Sparking Wine ready for us within moments. Once processed in, she ushered us through the entire resort … which is STUNNING BEYOND WORDS … and to our suite …. ALSO, BREATHTAKING!!!

Now this room was perfect!! Huge closets, Huge glassed-in shower with steamroom component, gigantic big screen TV, tons of space …. And an INCREDIBLE view of the sea!! It was quite a walk to the room from the main lobby area, but WELL WORTH IT!! Very private!!

The resort is GORGEOUS and VERY VERY VERY PRIVATE!! The pool, spectacular! The beach area, extremely private and well maintained! The food at the resort … exquisite!! The poolside bites, fabulous! The breakfast in the AM on this HUGE HUGE HUGE veranda-style patio … absolutely scrumptious! No matter what your dietary restrictions or preferences, this enormous buffet has it covered!! Incredible wait staff. Absolutely nothing overlooked!

The pool is unbelievable! The overall appearance. The cleanliness. The ambiance. Everything …. Absolutely top drawer!! The wait staff is a little slow, but once you get on their radar while sunning poolside, they came quite frequently to make sure our every need was met.

My only drawback with this resort was its distance from the main shopping area and entertainment area of Mykonos. While that was ultimately our goal, to be away from the huddled masses … we did get a little tired of the shuttling to and from the city center. The Resort provided regularly scheduled, almost hourly service to/from in the evening. But daytimes were a challenge. The resort was very helpful in setting up taxis for us, but the expense became a little overwhelming … especially considering how short our stay was.

Again … I could go on and on about the amenities and people at this resort … but I am sure you probably know ALL about it already!!

Suffice it to say … we would absolutely rate the MYKONOS GRAND as 10/10, and give Five Stars!

The resort took care of making out transfers to the airport and we were on our way to Athens for the night. This was seemless and easy. The ticketing was very simple. Nothing to report here.

KELSEY AND MARK - Greece Honeymoon review September 2017

Our first stop was in Athens at the Royal Olympic hotel. The hotel was beautiful and has amazing views of the ruins from the rooftop restaurant where the buffet breakfast is served. We did the hop-on hop-off bus during our time here, which also serves as 48 hours of cheap transportation.

We then took a plane to Mykonos and stayed at the Manoulas Beach Hotel. The hotel was only close to one restaurant, however there's a bus stop right across the street that takes you into town, so we used that for all of our transportation. Our hotel room was on the ground floor and very dark, however we were able to see the pool and a small slice of the water from our porch. We did the delouse day tour off of Viator while in Mykonos and had a great time. You have to pay to rent a chair at the beach, however there were always lots of chairs available at the hotel pool.

We then took a ferry to Santorini and stayed at the Volcano View Hotel. This hotel was very nice and they upgraded us to a room on the cliff overlooking the water, which was beautiful. The hotel pools were very busy so unless you got there early, it was difficult to get a chair until the evening. This hotel has it's own shuttle transportation into town where we went for all of our meals. One of the places we really liked was Dionysos resturant which served really good beers. We also had some really good cheap meals at the walk-up stands downtown. While in Santorini we did a catamaran boat tour off of Viator again and this is one of the best activities we did (it included snorkeling, going to hot springs, homemade BBQ, open bar, etc.).

We then took a plane back to Athens and then from there to Crete where we stayed at the Blue Palace. This was my favorite part of the vacation by far. We had a wonderful view of the Spinalonga and the resort was amazing! It has numerous pools and it's own private beach and it's easy to find chairs. The resort has several restaurants and bars, however the food/drinks weren't that great and we found it much better to walk into the nearest town, Plaka, which was about a 5 minute walk. The town was quaint and very authentic without a lot of tourists. We also took the bus to Elounda one day, however I found Plaka to be much more enjoyable. If we had more time I would have loved to take a boat and tour Spinalonga, however we decided just to spend the last few days relaxing.

Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide. Thanks again!
